Encore’s New Director And Singers Bring Fresh Energy To Popular Community Choir
Tigard, OR, Oct. 5, 2001 — Encore Women’s Vocal Ensemble warmly welcomes new director Melinda Beyers and singers Katrina Simkins, Rose Wood, Ann Reznicsek, Tracie McDowell and Rebecca Humphreys. The community choir has been performing together for about 10 years, and has established itself as a popular entertainment group in the Portland metro area retirement and assisted-living communities. Encore is also familiar to audiences at The Grotto, The Oregon Zoo and many more. The key to its longevity has been to promote the singers’ artistic development while offering audiences a fresh concert each season. They accomplish these goals by choosing a music mix of increasingly difficult compositions balanced with less complicated music.
Encore’s mission "to bring joy and harmony to the community through a wide variety of distinctive choral music," is certain to see another successful season based upon the enthusiasm and commitment that all of the singers share, seasoned and new alike. Encore’s members travel from all over the Portland metro area, commuting from as far away as Gladstone, Hillsboro, and Sherwood, to attend weekly rehearsals at the Tigard United Methodist Church. The singers’ backgrounds include varying degrees of music and performing arts education. Melinda’s dynamic energy is the fuel for her Cantabile Arts Voice Studio, directing music at the Willamette United Methodist Church and a youth choir through Link-Up. She is well prepared for these multi-faceted challenges after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Western State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Marylhurst University. In her spare time she performs with "Voce Bella," another women’s ensemble, honing her own musical performance skills that she happily shares with Encore.

Encore receives ACDA award
April 23, 2001
Encore Women’s Vocal Ensemble received its first choral competition award on April 7th. Unlike the other choirs competing, this group is made up of women, ages 18+, from the Portland metro area. Imagine the surprise of the teenagers at the choral festival when they saw this group of ‘old ladies’ singing on their own competition stage! Encore was an even bigger hit with the teachers and judges since its presence at the festival served as visual – and audio – proof that music is something to enjoy throughout your lifetime.
