Web-Strider Enterprises will arrange a mutually convenient time to discuss your project, either by telephone or in person. Prior to the discussion, it is helpful to read and complete the Web design questionnaire. The discussion includes:
Following the discussion, Web-Strider will deliver a proposal detailing the particulars of the project, which will include the following:
Upon acceptance of the proposal and the terms of agreement documents by the client, Web-Strider requires a deposit of 50% of the final amount of the estimated cost. Note: The proposal will only concern the initial site design or redesign. Ongoing maintenance can be discussed at this time but will not be included in the original proposal or estimate.
Upon acceptance of the proposal and the terms of agreement, Web-Strider conceptualizes, designs, and tests possible implementations of the Web project. Web-Strider will provide up to three (3) mockup versions of a home page (which includes logo, color scheme, typeface, and general layout, and which will be used throughout the entire site) for your final approval before taking the site to final implementation.
Upon acceptance of a single mockup version by the client, Web-Strider will then construct the rest of the site as agreed upon in the proposal and terms of agreement documents. At this time, graphics and colors will be optimized for the Web, and cross-browser testing will be conducted. The pages are also optimized for standards compliance, accessibility, and search engine placement. As the different components are completed, they will be posted to a site where they can be viewed and critiqued prior to launch at the domain name URL.
During this phase, Web-Strider will also verify that domain name registration and hosting have been arranged (if not done so previously by the client or by Web-Strider).
Upon approval of the final site and receipt of the final 50% payment, Web-Strider will upload the site to the domain name URL. At this time, Web-Strider will also provide the client with a CD containing the Web site and any graphics developed for the site. Note: Once the client has received this CD, the responsibility for the copyright of the entire site and of any graphics (including logos, charts, diagrams, and photos) or text provided by the client will be assumed by the client and not by Web-Strider.
Clients will have several options for site maintenance following the completion of their project:
Any maintenance or updates will be negotiated under a separate proposal from the original estimate, unless otherwise specified in the original estimate.
For those sites that require regular updating and/or maintenance, Web-Strider will provide four (4) hours of any of the services described on the Services page of this site for a total fee of $100 per month (billed and paid quarterly).
Responsibility for retaining current backup copies of site files lies solely with the client; Web-Strider does not retain backup copies of site files and does not always have access to current copies if updates to the site files are needed.
Q: How much does a Web site cost?
A: Final cost of a site varies greatly depending upon its purpose, its features, and its complexity. A "brochure" or "postcard" site with a few pictures and some text will be less expensive than a more complex site with multiple pages and with interactive features like searches and e-commerce.
Q: How do I get started?
A: Start with reading this Process page to understand the steps Web-Strider employs. Next, print and fill out the Web project questionnaire. Finally, contact Web-Strider to set up a free consultation.
Q: How much do you require down?
A: We require 50% of your estimated project costs as a down payment. Subsequent payments are due prior to the launch of the project, and these amounts and dates are outlined in the terms of agreement document that you and Web-Strider will sign.
Q: Who would have rights to all the code and graphics of the web site?
A: When the project is complete, and upon final payment, your company will own the rights to all code and graphics and anything else that went into the site. We will upload the entire site to your Web address and also provide you with a CD backup of the site. Note: It is your responsibility to retain current backup copies of site files. Web-Strider does not retain backup copies of site files and does not always have access to current copies if updates to the site files are needed.
Q: How do I get a domain name?
A: There are any number of registrars available for registering domain names. Prices range anywhere from $0 to $50 or more, depending on what services you purchase. Web-Strider has a preferred registrar or can make recommendations. Web-Strider can also arrange for domain name registration with the registrar of your choice.
Q: How do I know when my domain name expires? What do I do if that happens?
A: Your domain name registrar will notify you prior to the expiration date of your domain name, usually by email. Registrars vary, but they usually give 30 - 60 days' notice. If you receive an expiration notice from your registrar, renew the domain name as soon as possible.
Q: Do you host my site?
A: Web-Strider does not provide Web hosting. If you do not already have hosting, we can recommend an ISP who will provide Web hosting. Plans are usually available to meet many different needs. Many ISPs have simple packages for just Web hosting with a mailbox account; they also often have "deluxe" packages that include dialup/DSL access and more complex Web hosting options. Web-Strider can arrange for hosting, or the you can make the arrangements. You will need to provide Web-Strider with any passwords you are given to access your site.
Q: Who maintains backups of my site files?
A: You will receive a CD containing the Web site and any graphics developed for the site. It is your responsibility to keep it in a safe place should restoration of the site become necessary due to any glitches with the server hosting your Web site or due to domain name expiration.
Q: How do I get people to visit my Web site?
A: The best way to promote your site is to include Web address on every piece of printed material or other media that you generate. Put it on your letterhead and business cards, state it on your voicemail, put it on your front door sign, and list it in any advertising (print, radio, television, Internet) that you use. Web-Strider optimizes all sites for search engine placement and can help you explore other methods for marketing your site. Be aware that this will take time and money beyond the actual site design to accomplish.
